Maybe the green revolution isn’t going to be driven by fuel cells and massive solar arrays, but instead by smaller actions like buying local and using recycled pens. Just a thought.

Exxon basically announced the arrival of Peak Oil at their latest shareholder meetings, saying they can no longer pump as much oil out of the ground as they refine above ground. This is shockingly honest news from Exxon, and has dire implications on the U.S. and the rest of the world, especially coming on the heels of similar news from Saudi Arabia. Gas prices are only going to go up from here.
In a somewhat sad and hilarious postscript to that news is word that at least one U.S. congressperson doesn’t believe Exxon. “We are not going to run out of anything,” Minnesota Republican Mike Beard recently said, arguing to resume coal mining in Minnesota. “God is not capricious. He’s given us a creation that is dynamically stable.” Hopefully Rep. Beard’s oil and coal-producing faeries get to work, they’ve got some catching up to do!
